Exam Process for successful Certification:
1. Application for certification (see link below) is submitted by a candidate.
2. The Board reviews and approves the candidate to sit for examination if all requirements are met.
3. The Written Exam is completed and passed, usually in Kernersville, NC.
4. The Board reviews the Written Exam, and the Oral Exam is completed and passed at a regularly scheduled board meeting.
5. The candidate is certified to practice Pastoral Counseling in the state of North Carolina.
Applications are encouraged by the traditional deadlines of February 1st and August 1st annually for them to be reviewed at the traditionally scheduled spring and fall board meetings. However, applications can be submitted at any time. Once they are received with all documentation and payment, the board can review them at their next meeting. Written Exams can be scheduled on an individual or rolling basis and Oral Exams can be incorporated into the following Board meeting. Written Exam: First Friday in May and October Annually, Kernersville, NC
Oral Exam: First Friday in June and November Annually, Kernersville, NC

For persons with criminal conviction:
If a person is denied certification or approval to sit for examination because of a criminal conviction alone, appeals can be received in writing within 30 days of the notice of denial and shall include additional documentation for consideration such as correction of an inaccuracy in criminal history and/or evidence of mitigation or rehabilitation.
Any individual can petition the board for a predetermination of whether their criminal history is likely to disqualify them from obtaining certification. These petitions must be received in writing and will be responded to in writing following board review.
